  • Charting Our Community's Course: Make Your Voice Heard

Posted by Janet Bishop at 1/4/2017
    CMAP

Do you live in unincorporated Maine Township? Here’s a chance to make your voice heard.

The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) and Cook County are working on a community plan for the Maine-Northfield unincorporated area, much of which is within District 63’s boundaries. Surrounded by Des Plaines, Glenview, Niles, Morton Grove, and Park Ridge, this large unincorporated area has never benefitted from a thoughtful, strategic plan for growth and development.

    Now is the time.

To create a strong plan that can successfully shape the area for the next decade, resident input is essential and CMAP wants to hear from you! What do you like about our area? What would you change? What are your ideas about flooding, housing, transportation, parks and open space? If you live in the unincorporated area or attend school there, take CMAP’s online survey before January 31.

    Learn more about the plan:

For more information, contact CMAP Project Manager John Carlisle at 312.386.8839, or Cook County Project Liaison James Wilson at 312.603.0544.

  • Gembots Qualify for State FIRST LEGO League Competition

Posted by Janet Bishop at 12/13/2016
    Gembots

Not bad for beginners! Gemini's "Gembots" Robotics Team competed for the first time in a qualifier FIRST LEGO League Competition on December 10 in Mt. Prospect -- and walked away with multiple honors and awards!

Each year, the FIRST LEGO League releases a challenge based on a real-world scientific topic. Teams must program an autonomous robot to complete 13 "missions," scoring points on a themed playing field, guided by the FIRST LEGO League Core Values: celebrating discovery, teamwork, and gracious professionalism.

This year's theme was Animal Allies. After two months of hard work, the eight-member team, competing against 34 other teams, won Rookie of the Year and 3rd place overall in the Core Values Interview.

The Gembots also qualified for one of two FIRST LEGO League State Competitions, scheduled for January 28 at the University of Illinois!
