Nelson School

Empowering all students to succeed in a changing world

A Message from the Principal

Jean
To our new and returning students I extend a warm welcome to the 2016-2017 school year.  As I walk the halls of Nelson School I am always struck by the sense of family and community that fills our school.  Our staff is fully committed to success without boundaries for each student.  In addition to a challenging academic curriculum, our students experience social-emotional learning and positive behavior supports.

Our students receive support from an active PTO that sponsors family events such as the upcoming Welcome Back Picnic on September 1st.  PTO also donates funds for classroom and school needs.  We enjoy community partnerships with local libraries.  Niles Family Services offers supports to students at Nelson as well as outside the school.  The Village of Niles recently donated and planted a tree in front of the school as an Arbor Day celebration.

We know we our students benefit from strong family-school partnerships; we cannot do it without you!  Please join us at our Open Houses to be held on August 25th.  Grades K-3 parents should join us from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and Grade 4-6 parents follow from 7:00-8:00 p.m.  We will first gather in the gym for a brief welcome and school year overview, then parents are invited to visit their child's classroom to meet the teacher and hear about the exciting plans for the year.  Light refreshments will be provided between sessions for parents who attend both sessions.

Looking forward to a great year of learning-

Dr. Jean LeBlanc
