Welcome to the Washington School Library. The library houses K-6 level fiction and nonfiction books and a computer lab. Each class visits the library for an hour each week to select books and learn information and technology literacy skills. Classes are coordinated with grade level curriculum.
Books are checked out for a one-week loan period and are renewable. Washington School has a library book budget and also often receives money from the PTO to purchase books. Students can read from the Illinois Student Book Award lists - the Monarch, the Bluestem, and the Caudill.
In the spring they join other Illinois students and vote for their favorites.
Students use a number of computer programs in the library. Google Apps is used as a word processing and presentation program. Students can use Typing Agent, a keyboarding program, and Raz-Kids, a leveled reading program, during their library time and also extend the use of these programs at home.
