  • Ben Franklin Pays a Visit to Apollo

    Ben

In January, Apollo’s 3rd graders and 3rd/4th grade dual language classes had a visit from a real VIP: Founding Father Benjamin Franklin!  “Ben” stopped by as part of the students’ American History unit; the inventor, statesman, publisher, and man-for-all-seasons reminisced about his political life, writings, and scientific improvements.

Although he didn’t bring along his kite or key, the discoverer of electricity also shared the many ways in which our lives today are influenced by the role he played in founding our country.

Do you live in unincorporated Maine Township? Here’s a chance to make your voice heard.

The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) and Cook County are working on a community plan for the Maine-Northfield unincorporated area, much of which is within District 63’s boundaries. Surrounded by Des Plaines, Glenview, Niles, Morton Grove, and Park Ridge, this large unincorporated area has never benefitted from a thoughtful, strategic plan for growth and development.

    Now is the time.

To create a strong plan that can successfully shape the area for the next decade, resident input is essential and CMAP wants to hear from you! What do you like about our area? What would you change? What are your ideas about flooding, housing, transportation, parks and open space? If you live in the unincorporated area or attend school there, take CMAP’s online survey before January 31.

    Learn more about the plan:

For more information, contact CMAP Project Manager John Carlisle at 312.386.8839, or Cook County Project Liaison James Wilson at 312.603.0544.
